Wax Apple

Wax apples, also widely known as Rose apples, was first introduced into Taiwan back in the 17th century. The fruit again continue to be perfected by Taiwan farmers, to a point that it exceeded its origin in every aspect, including the taste, sweetness, and fruit shape. The world famous Taiwan “Black Diamond Wax Apple” was officially introduced in 1987. This new breed excelled in larger size, no seeds, crimson skin, sweetness, lots of juice and crispness in a bite, all thanks to the Fongshan Tropical Horticultural Experiment Branch of the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute. Currently, 90% of the Black Diamond Wax Apple produced in Kaohsiung is provided in the domestic market. Since it is so popular, not much of it makes its way to the international market. Rarity and exotic sure attracts.

Taste and Texture
The wax apple’s oval, almost pear-shaped, and has a pale off white skin with a slight pink tone. Its flesh is sweet in flavor and has the scent of a rose. They are often eaten fress due to their perishable nature.

Purchasing Principles
Wax apples bruises easily. Look for fruit firm to the touch without bruises, cuts, or abrasions.
